A pleasant surprise 06-18-17
Wildlife can be very unpredictable, which is probably why it's "wild." This unpredictability can make it challenging to find locations where animals are not only consistently present, but also allow me to get close enough to photograph them. As such, I'm always looking for new places to capture pictures of the local animals.
Yesterday morning, I took a chance and ventured out onto the Eden Landing Ecological Reserve in Hayward, Calif., a small park about 15-minutes from my home. I had expected to find the usual cast of birds: egrets, terns and avocets. I was pleasantly surprised to see a red fox running across the road. I wasn't able to make any pictures of the fox at the time, but I managed to follow it to its den, which I staked out in the evening.
My efforts paid off. Below are a few of the images I made as the fox returned to the lair.
While walking back to the parking lot, I was surprised a second time, as a second fox ran out from a hiding spot on the side of the trail. With only a few seconds to work before it ran off, I captured this picture of it enjoying the evening light.
I'll definitely be returning to Eden Landing to make more pictures of these beautiful animals.
